Miami Nights

This past weekend was my birthday and I decided to head down to Miami for a little getaway. I thought it would be opportunity to get some work done, take some photos, enjoy the weather, and bring in my birthday the right way.

This was the first time I prepared to take my camera gear and laptop with me on a trip outside the state so I was a little nervous and unsure how it was going to turn out. I planned on shooting so I did a little research on a solid carry on case for a DSLR and ended up ordering the Pelican 1510 hard body travel case with rollers for easy maneuverability. Best purchase ever to say the least. This bad boy is beyond sturdy, has all the necessary compartments and space for a bunch of lenses, your body, and  accessories. The combination of the Pelican case and a backpack and you can have everything you need to shoot and edit. In my backpack I was able to carry my laptop, external hard drives, mouse, and all the necessary wires, plugs, and battery charger to last the weekend. I also purchased a TSA approved combination wire lock that was perfect to keep my camera secure while on the plane and in my hotel room. I felt real comfortable no matter were I went so if you are going to travel I suggest you look into the case and lock for sure.

When I arrived at the hotel in downtown Miami the lady at the front desk said I had a great view of the city and water which is what I paid for but I didn't expect for it to be as good as it was. As soon as I walked onto the huge balcony overlooking the city I knew a night shot was necessary and boom I took this photo below. This was a hand held shot at 1/10 f 2.8 with a 14mm prime canon lens at iso 640. I kind of piggy backed off the Instagram hand-holding couple's photos just without the girl because I'm single but when I do get the girl of my dreams I am sure she will be on the other end holding my hand  experiencing these epic moments. I think I will call this one "you should be here with me".

Face Your FEARS

Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat whether the threat is real or imaginable. That is the definition of fear and the crazy part about it is the part stating that FEAR can be REAL or IMAGINABLE. In my opinion fear is just a thought or feeling caused by imaginable things. Danger is real but fear is really made up in out heads. With that being said I have been thinking a lot lately about my business and just life in general. Over the past few months I have been super busy with photo shoots, expanding my business, modeling, and fitness that I have forgotten about some of the little things that need to get done. With all the work I have been doing I have been putting off marketing my art through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and through my website and this blog. I wasn't doing it on purpose but I believe that the fear of posting has been holding me back. I know it sounds stupid but I am a perfectionist when it comes to my craft and everything I do in life. Its a gift and a curse and what I mean by that is it is good for my visual art concepts because every detail is crucial to me which can be seen in my work but at the same time it holds me back in certain aspects like posting and showing off my finished products. One of my mentors hit me with a great quote.... "Perfection is the enemy of progression" and it is so true. I am so picky that it has held me back from even posting anything over the past few months on any of my platforms and that to me is a huge problem.

This mini project was all about facing my FEARS and really indulging in my passion of visual art all in one. So with the first Fear out of the way my second one is that I am deathly afraid of heights. Being higher than 10 feet gives me discomfort and looking down from any edge always makes me nervous. I have been this way since I can remember and I have never really faced it head on. As i was reflecting the other day on my reasons for not posting as much as i should be and the fear of perfection and heights I knew i needed to come up with a way to take on both and that is when the idea of "Rooftopping" hit me.

"Rooftopping" is the art of creating visuals on a "roof" or an object or building that is of significant height. It is more of a recent man made term but none the less I have been so interested in it since I started shooting but the only thing holding me back from doing it was my fear of heights. Having a fear of heights doesn't work well with these types of visuals but I knew that this would be a perfect way to face my fears, capture some sick visuals, and post some good content.

The feeling of being that high up was a rush but definitely worth it. Everyone has fears but not everyone is able to admit them not to mention take them on face to face. Below is a mini gallery of what I captured and how I took on both my FEARS at one time.

Joey Badawi Fitness Shoot

I had the pleasure of shooting Joey Badawi, who is hopefully going to be competing in Men's Physique in 2015. Joey came to me wanting to try a photo shoot to see if he had the look for fitness modeling. He said he never competed and the photoshoot was really his motivation to get in the best shape of his life. Well I think he made a good decision because this kid came ready! Joey came in shredded and full like he has been doing this for years. Blew my mind. It was so easy shooting Joey at the gym as it is for most people in fitness, putting them right in their comfort zone. As soon as we stepped into the studio to get some high res magazine style shots Joey was warmed up and ready to take on whatever I threw at him. To say the least I hope to be working with Joey in the future and I hope he takes the step next year on joining the NPC and competing. He definitely has what it takes and I wish him the best.

Tou and Kristine Phung's Virginia Wedding

I had the opportunity to shoot my good friends Tou and Kristine Phung's wedding on 9/22/2014. What an amazing experience that took place at a catholic church in Ashburn, Virginia. We started off the day around 8:00 am at the hotel where the bride and brides maids were all getting their make up and hair done while trying to finish up some last minute gift ideas for the guests. You can feel the excitement, anticipation, stress, and love as soon as you walked in as the time was passing by. The anticipation was building every minute until finally the limo arrived and we were off to the church. I met up with the groom and groomsmen at the church to get some behind the scene shots prior to the ceremony starting. What a feeling! I never been married but I can just feel the anxiousness from everyone especially Tou who was pacing back and forth checking his phone every minute. Once the ceremony was over Tou and Kristine and their families all had smiles on their faces. It was a beautiful site to say the least and the energy was building preparing for the festivities to come. I know Tou had a lot planned for the post celebration because he owns a DJ & Lighting Company called KTS Productionz, who was already at the venue setup and ready to get the night started. To say the least this wedding was a hit and I know everyone that attended can attest to what an amazing night!

Good luck to Tou and Kristine and I wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Ken Settepani IFBB Pro Men's Physique - @KSettepani

I had the opportunity to work with Ken Settepani, who is currently a Men's Physique IFBB Pro. We setup the shoot at Gold's Gym Clocktower in Herdon, Virginia. Ken was looking amazing as he was preparing to head out to the Pittsburgh Pro competition so it was a perfect time to capture some shots. This was one of Ken's first photo shoots but it wasn't an issue at all. I had him do what he does best, pick up weights, put them down, and hit some posing. Ken is also doing fitness and diet plans full time so the info and tips he was giving me were sick. If you are looking to get in shape for the summer or getting show ready make sure you contact Ken by shooting him a message on Facebook. Check out some of the photos below and make sure to check out the full album on my Facebook Page at Bobby Bandz Photography. I would love to hear your feedback and comments.

Powerhouse Gym Hanover, Maryland

I love the gym. Plain and simple. I love it as much as I do photography so it is really something I am passionate about. When I have the opportunity to hit a new gym I never been to it is really an awesome feeling. I am sure it may sound stupid to some but to me it is really an unexplainable feeling. When I walked into Powerhouse Gym located in Hanover, Maryland I felt this great ora. The feeling made me want to drop my bags, grab some weights, and start lifting. The gym has this warehouse feel with super high ceilings and truck dock style doors. It is extremely clean and has just the right amount of equipment to get it in. The best part about Powerhouse is it has old school dumbbells along with out of the ordinary things to pick up and put down. Huge tires filled up the corners of the gym along with heavy sledge hammers. There is plenty of room to get creative and really challenge yourself. And if you aren't into weights no worries because there are plenty of cardio machines that will help burn that extra fat off before summer. Below are a few photos I took while I was out there. I suggest if you are in the area you head over and tell them I sent you. You won't be disappointed. You might even run into IFBB Pro Duane Brickhouse and National Qualified NPC Competitor Jay Rawlings. Check out some of the photos below and make sure to check out the full album on my Facebook Page at Bobby Bandz Photography. I would love to hear your feedback and comments.

Fitness Photo Shoot With Jay Rawlings- @GymTimeJay

I had the pleasure of shooting Jay Rawlings, an up and coming men's physique competitor, from the DMV. Jay has placed high in all his debut shows in 2013 (You can check his pictures from the show and where he placed by checking NPC News Online). We were able to shoot these photos in the Hanover Powerhouse Gym in Maryland which was an ideal location. The gym is wide open with a feel of a huge warehouse filled with everything you need to be a beast. They have the normal gym equipment that you can expect but in the corner of the gym you will notice all of the advanced beast mode like equipment and accessories. Big tires, small tires, hammers, and anything you can think of to switch up your workouts. Jay and I connected on this shoot bringing a clean fitness magazine style and look. Check out some of the photos below and make sure to check out the full album on my Facebook Page at Bobby Bandz Photography. I would love to hear your feedback and comments.

Behind The Scenes With Baby Roman and His Family

If you know me then you understand how important family is to me. If you don't then let me explain a little.  To make a long story short, I grew up and was raised by my grandparents due to the fact that my parents weren't ready for such a responsibility. It probably sounds worse than what it is but at the time it my family made the right decision. Looking back on it I am beyond blessed because my family did whatever they thought would be best for me and my future. Growing up I didn't realize how lucky I was to live under a roof, go to private schools, play sports, and live how I did but after I got a little older I really started to look back on my life and started to understand that my family was and still is a huge reason why I am where I am today. Without the help of my grandparents and family each taken an opportunity to raise me who knows where I would have ended up. When I was presented with the opportunity to shoot the Kasper Family it was truly a blessing. It was something I couldn't pass up. Seeing a whole family with 2 great parents and 3 amazing healthy kids is something I truly admire and respect. There are a lot of kids out there, myself being one of them, that don't have or didm't have a parent or both parents around. The Kasper kids are still so young that they really don't know how good they have it but one day they will realize how great their lives are with 2 amazing parents that love them to death and sacrifice so much to make sure they have a successful life. I know Mr. and Mrs. Kasper personally and both of them give it 120% all the time. This power couple is truly amazing and Ive admired them from day 1 so being able to put this photo shoot together with their beautiful kids and new born really meant something to me. Here are a few of the photos I took of baby Roman and his family. If you would like to see the full album, go directly to my Facebook Page.

Rashad's VIP Birthday Bash At Opera Lounge D.C

I had a good time at this event. The location was Opera Lounge in D.C and my boy Rashad was celebrating his birthday in VIP (obviously). Rashad and his crew always do it big whenever they are in town, so I told Rashad I would look out for him on his birthday and shoot some photos. When I walked in it was already slammed with people but luckily their VIP table was in the perfect location. Clean leather couches, tables with bottles of the best liquor, and beautiful people everywhere. I couldn't wait to go to work. I was equipped with only my Nikon D3200 and external flash so it was easy to navigate through the crowd with no body guards needed. A few bottles came in from the cocktail waitresses and at that point everyone started to really enjoy themselves. Within 90 minutes I was already about 150 photos in which surprised me. Time flies when your having fun  Here are a few of the finished photos of the event. You can catch the rest of the album on my Facebook page and don't forget to tag yourself.

Welcome To The New and Improved BobbyBandz.com

Whats up world?

I just wanted to formally introduce myself and welcome you to my new site! My name is Bobby and I created this portfolio and blog to simply show the world my photos as well as share as much insight about my life and journey in the industry. I really hope you enjoy it.

Let me first tell you a little bit about myself. I am currently based in Northern Virginia but I am originally from Connecticut. Growing up I played a lot of sports. When I say A LOT I mean A LOT. I played a different sport every season, every year, until high school. Once I graduated high school, I decided to pack up my things and pursue my dream of becoming a professional (well educated) baseball player at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Va. I had a lot of fun, but after a few years of long baseball games and practices I decided to hang up the cleats and focus solely on my career. It hurt at the time but I made the best decision for my future. Over the next couple years I ended up moving out of college, met a lot of great people, graduated with a business degree, worked on a clothing company, bought a house, worked some cool jobs and currently I am trying to turn my dreams to a reality and be one the most successful photographers in the world.

I have been working hard on my career in the business field but it wasn't that long ago that I really found out about my passion for photography. Picking up my first DSLR was like a dream come true. I had that warm fuzzy feeling like I was in love for the first time all over again. Since I stopped playing sports I haven't really had that passionate feeling about a hobby in a while so It started to make me think. That same day I got my camera is the day I decided to take on photography as a profession. Just like that. No questions asked. I made a promise to myself that this would be the year I make some changes and start to make more time for the things that make me happy and make me feel good. Why should I waste my time doing anything but that. No I didn't quite my jobs. Of course I have to work to make money to support myself and pay the bills but I changed my schedule around a lot. I leanred throughout the years If you want to do something bad enough you must make the necessary sacrifices to accomplish it and that is exactly what I did.

So this is where I am at today after less than a year from deciding I wanted to take this seriously. I turned my basement into a complete home photo studio with lights and equipment. I upgraded my lenses, software, and added some new goodies to my arsenal including a GoPro Hero 3. After working doubles for the past couple years I have decided to make changes to my schedule freeing up more time for me to shoot daily and book shoots during the week and weekend. I have created this cool portfolio website compliments of squarespace and Jared Polin. And Before I forget,  I have to send a big thank you to Jared aka Fro Knows Photos, who I am a big fan of his work and blog, for posting about squarespace and making an eye catching website. I've been booking as many shoots as I could but since I finally finished this site I will be making more time to network and expand so be ready!

Since I started, I have set some short and long term goals. My goals have been slowly growing and developing. I've accomplished a few already. This website and blog post are 2 small goals I made just this week.  I will be getting more into detail with my future plans and goals through this blog but to sum it up I am trying to take all my work to the next level by shooting as much as possible and learning as much as possible in the process. You know what they say, "knowledge is power". Over the next year I want to book new clients, do different events, and really shoot some cool projects. You will also see me posting more to document my life behind the lens to give you a realistic point of view. My social media outlets will be another way for me to communicate and express to you my daily thoughts and actions so please check them out and follow me if you're not already.

I also will be sharing any tips, tricks, reviews, new gadgets, and basically any knowledge I can share on this page to help others. Networking is key in my opinion so I am hoping that this can be a catalyst and allow people to ask me questions, share tips, and just share overall experiences in the industry with me so don't be afraid to hit me up. Just click the contact section of the page to get all my info.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone who has helped me get to this point in time and I want to thank all of you who have checked out my page, BobbyBandz.com. I look forward to the future and what it is going to bring. Stay tuned.
